Michael Azar

Michael Azar is an Associate Licensed Counselor under the supervision of Dr. Latrica Henegar, Ed.D., LPC-S. His philosophy of counseling is based around the simple idea that every individual deserves to live a happy, healthy and whole life. A little help in counseling has the potential to go a long way to living happy, healthy, and whole.

Michael spent nearly 5 years working in the substance abuse treatment field, in a variety of different positions, and found his passion for helping people there. He completed his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Troy University in Montgomery. His clinical training for his master’s program began at an intensive inpatient behavioral healthcare facility for children aged 12–18 who were in DHR custody and subsequently in a private practice counseling setting.

There’s enough negativity in the world and Michael believes that most individuals who seek out professional counseling likely don’t want to pile on the negativity in a counseling session. With that, Michael’s approach to counseling is focused on person-centered therapy, which intends on actualizing the individual to be the best version of themselves. He uses a cognitive behavioral approach to his counseling practice in conjunction with mindfulness practices to help alleviate stress and anxiety.

Michael provides counseling in many areas of specialty, including:

Michael has lived in the Auburn/Opelika area for 15 years. Outside of his counseling practice, he enjoys spending time outside with his dog, Sky. Her insatiable appetite for fetch keeps him busy at all hours of the day! He plays bass guitar in a band in his off-time and is an avid college football fan. He also enjoys spending time with his family in the mountains of Western North Carolina and Wetumpka, Alabama.

Michael’s motto in counseling is: “A problem shared is a problem cut in half.”
